Capcom Begins Cracking Down On “Inappropriate or Objectionable” Fan
As per a newly emplaced ban on the use of their titles in the creation of fan media, Capcom has begun to crack down on “inappropriate or objectionable” content, with one content creator already reporting that they have received a takedown notice regarding “sexy mods.”
On January 6th, in an update to their video content policy, Capcom announced several new restrictions on how fans could use footage from the company’s library of titles in the creation of their own original content.
Alongside bans on the unannounced posting of spoilers and the “disclosure of game content prior to a game’s official release,” the veteran video game developer declared that they would no longer allow their games to be used to create “inappropriate content.”
“Using Capcom titles to create video and other content, including mods, that is illegal, racist, sexist, prejudicial to sexual orientation, sexually explicit, disparaging, promotes hate crimes, or is otherwise offensive is not tolerated,” declared Capcom.
In addition to the carpet ban on vaguely defined ‘inappropriate content,’ Capcom also noted that, “on a case by case basis,” the company “reserves the right to take down content that is found to be inappropriate or objectionable, at our discretion.”
In conclusion to their video policy, Capcom informed content creators that their “failure to abide by these video content guidelines may result in Capcom taking action to have your video content removed.”
“Please note that this policy is not exhaustive,” they added, “and we reserve the right to object to any use of Capcom materials and to remove such objectionable content at our sole discretion.”
Unsurprisingly, these new restrictions have already begun to see questionable enforcement from Capcom.
Just one day after their announcement, YouTuber VatiWah reported, via popular anti-censorship Twitter account Voice of Fanservice, that his channel had received a copyright strike from the company over a video which appears to have showcased a nude mod for Resident Evil 3 REmake’s Jill Valentine.

Sony has released the first official trailer for its upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the sequel to 2018's Venom.
Directed by Black Panther and The Batman star Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to hit theaters in September. The film marks the return of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), who faces a new adversary in the form of Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), a serial killer destined to become the symbiotic super-villain known as Carnage.
Created by comic book writer and Venom co-creator David Michelinie alongside legendary Spider-Man artist Mark Bagley, Cletus Kasady first appeared in 1991's Amazing Spider-Man #344, and would debut as Carnage the following year in issue #360. In the comics, Cletus was Eddie Brock's cellmate at Ryker's Island. Eddie despised Cletus for his murderous, nihilistic worldview and would repeatedly beat him. Before Cletus could kill his cellmate in revenge, the Venom symbiote returned to Eddie and the two made their escape. Little did Eddie know, the symbiote had asexually reproduced, with the newly-created Carnage symbiote bonding to Cletus.
Based on the eponymous character created by Michelinie and Todd McFarlane, Sony's Venom hit theaters in 2018 as the first film in the studio's planned franchise of live-action Spider-Man spinoffs. Upon its release, Venom set multiple box office records for the month of October, concluding its theatrical run with a worldwide box office haul of $856.1 million. In the film's mid-credits scene, Hardy's Eddie is invited to interview Harrelson's Cletus in prison, with the latter promising "carnage" upon his escape.
Following the success of the first film, Sony began developing a sequel to Venom, with the subtitle Let There Be Carnage being revealed in April 2020. The sequel was originally slated for arrive in October of 2020, though faced multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now set for release this coming September. In addition to Hardy and Harrelson, Michelle Williams and Reid Scott reprise their roles from the first film. Let There Be Carnage also features a number of newcomers, including Naomie Harris, Stephen Graham, Sean Delaney and Larry Olubamiwo.
Directed by Andy Serkis, Venom: Let There Be Carnage stars Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, Sean Delaney and Larry Olubamiwo. The film arrives in theaters Sept. 24.
